STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擳he 桃花直播 Water and Energy Conference Oct. 28-30 will examine the growing importance of addressing water as a critical resource tied to national security, economic development and environmental sustainability.
Presented by 桃花直播 State鈥檚 Water Resources Research Institute in partnership with the university鈥檚 Office of Research and Economic Development, the event takes place at The Mill at 桃花直播 Conference Center.
鈥淎s a society, we鈥檙e facing complex water management issues that no one group can solve alone,鈥 said Jason Barrett, associate extension professor and WRRI interim director. 鈥淏y serving as a tool for information transfer, the conference will help us learn practices and strategies to drive change and build a more secure future.鈥
Narcisa Pricope, 桃花直播鈥檚 associate vice president for research and conference co-organizer, is steering the agenda toward actionable strategies that fuse water stewardship with statewide energy resilience.
鈥淲ater is the hidden currency of energy security鈥攚hen we manage it wisely, our grids, industries and communities gain the stability they need to thrive,鈥 she said.
This year鈥檚 conference will explore the strategic role of water in national security, economic competitiveness, and environmental sustainability, with sessions addressing energy infrastructure and water reliability, agricultural and industrial water use, climate resilience and watershed management, and policy and governance.
Organizers are branching out this year to include more regional and national speakers and draw a broader range of participants鈥攆rom agricultural experts and watershed monitors to municipal leaders and water system managers.
The 2025 lineup includes leading innovators and representatives from the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation, 桃花直播 Department of Environmental Quality, 桃花直播 Department of Agriculture and Commerce, 桃花直播 Power, Southern Power, Tennessee Valley Authority, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Geological Survey, national labs and private industry.
The conference also provides a platform for students to showcase their research, receive feedback and engage in competitions that highlight innovative approaches to water and energy problems.
